By order of the Governor, Mayor, Executive Committee and Circuit Court Judge, masks are to be worn over the mouth and nose at all times and in all areas within the City-County Building. While most attorneys in our courts are adhering to the “mask mandate,” some are inclined to remove or lower their mask while speaking. This is not acceptable and not in accordance with the orders that are in place. Please also remind your clients of the mask order prior to appearing in court.

You find yourself having been pulled over by a police officer after you have had a couple of glasses of wine or beers with dinner. After asking you for your license and registration, the officer asks you, “how much have you had to drink this evening?” Do you answer the question honestly and say that you have had two glasses of wine? Do you lie and say that you have not had anything to drink, or do you say you've had just one glass of wine? Do you refuse to answer the question altogether? If you find yourself in that situation, it is almost certain that the officer already believes you have been drinking. 2020 has been a year full of new challenges but also new opportunities. The event planning and fundraising efforts of the Indianapolis Bar Association & Foundation are no exception! The final devastating blow: “law prom” has been canceled. Of course, we’re talking about the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) annual Evening Under the Stars Gala & Auction. For 2020 (and likely 2021,) in lieu of the annual gala, the IBF will host an online holiday auction: IndyBar’s Giving. This special event will take place during the week of Thanksgiving in an effort to kick-start holiday shopping and get members into the holiday spirit.

IndyBar members and the community showed overwhelming support during the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s third annual Day of Giving, which raised $36,475 from more than 250 donors. During such a challenging year, the foundation and its leadership is infinitely grateful for the generosity of the community, as well as the many hours of dedication by IBF volunteers and committee members to help spread the word about this important day.
