As lawyers, we are often brought in to help others with their conflict and difficult situations. However, we are never really taught how to manage a difficult and challenging conversation. It is not uncommon to feel anxious, unsure, frustrated, dread, or angry before, during and after these types of conversations. The Women and the Law Division will be hosting a training on this topic on June 7!

Check out this May 2, 2022 article from the Washington Post published in the IBJ. Discussing findings from an analysis published in the journal Work, Employment and Society, the author highlights: "Women with children reduced housework from 18 to 14 hours a week as they went from earning zero to half of the household income. But after passing her husband’s salary, a woman’s home tasks increased to nearly 16 hours a week, the analysis found. In contrast, a man’s housework ranged from six to eight hours a week when he was the primary breadwinner but then declined as his wife out-earned him."

The Juneteenth Holiday Celebration includes all races, ethnicities, religions and nationalities. Happy Diversity Month, IndyBar members! And what a historic month it has been with the confirmation of the first Black woman to the Supreme Court: Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Jackson’s confirmation also marks another first—the first public defender to serve as a justice. Thinking about these firsts simultaneously makes us think about how long it has taken to get to this point. However, instead of viewing the negatives, we should push ourselves to celebrate this momentous time in history. Relish the wins, no matter how big or small.

Check out this recently released article in the Washington Post, highlighting that younger women have closed the pay gap and are outpacing their male counterparts in nearly two dozen U.S. metropolitan areas, according to research. While we still have work to do, it provides welcome news on a positive trajectory.
