A new month means even more to celebrate! The month of May is Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month—a time to celebrate and pay tribute to the generations of Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Under the dynamic leadership of IndyBar President Jimmie McMillian, we're celebrating Juneteenth at Bench Bar to bring awareness to our members about this significant piece of history. More importantly, the Juneteenth workshop session will highlight and recognize the experiences and significant contributions that Black attorneys have made to our legal community.

April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize, honor and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diversity surrounding us all. Celebrate Diversity Month is about opening dialogues that foster an appreciation of the differences that separate us, as well as the similarities that unite us. This is a time to celebrate diversity within the workplace, profession, friend groups and within our society as a whole.

When racial disparity and inequality came to a head in Summer 2020, it quickly became obvious that the association had a responsibility to respond and to act on the many long-standing contributing structural issues present not only throughout the country but here at home in the Indianapolis community as well.

Amy Breihan has helped seek second chances for prisoners in Missouri who were younger than age 18 when they were sentenced to life behind bars. In addition to representing individual clients, she served as lead counsel in a federal class-action lawsuit that pressed the Missouri Parole Board to reform its process for juvenile lifers.
