The fall semester is in full swing, and many 1Ls are beginning to worry about finals and dream about their ideal internships.  The often-disappointing realization to students is that several internships do not pay, particularly government and non-for-profit entities. Many students left full-time jobs with salaries to attend law school, and this truism can force students to be creative in order to meet their financial obligations. Despite this, I am going to outline some benefits to accepting a pro bono internship.

We understand: balancing expenses straight out of law school can be tough, especially when it's a critical time to be investing in your career and your future. The IndyBar Criminal Justice Section is here to save the day! The section is offering a scholarship to attorneys AND 3Ls to cover IndyBar membership dues as well as Criminal Justice Section membership for two years—a value of approximately $370!

In conjunction with McKinney 1L orientation, the IndyBar re-launched its popular #WhyIndyBar campaign. The campaign focuses on personal testimonials from IndyBar law student members explaining why being a part of the IndyBar is so important and meaningful to them.

Case citations are important and have meaning. The accuracy of Bluebook citations has long been proxy for the substantive quality of a legal brief—now a quantitative study supports that notion.

The application deadline is September 1, 2018. Selected applicants will be notified whether they must submit to an interview with members of the scholarship committee. Scholarship recipients must be able to attend the Unity Award Dinner through award presentation in the last week of  November,  2018.

According to National Association for Law Placement, the overall employment rate for 2016 was 87.5 percent, which is “up by 0.8 percentage point compared with 2015.” Considering this market rise, it is no wonder that more and more students will be interested in law schools. But graduating from a law school isn’t enough; they also need to have proper skills and experiences to find their dream job.
