On Thursday, November 14th, IndyBar’s Law Student Division hosted Breakfast with the Bar: Young Attorneys in partnership with the Young Lawyers Division of IndyBar. Several IU McKinney law students were in attendance to learn about the transition to practice after law school from board members of the Young Lawyers Division. On Thursday, September 12th, IndyBar’s Law Student Division hosted its first Breakfast with the Bar of the academic year. Several Indianapolis area attorneys working in Intellectual Property (IP) Law joined students for an hour to discuss what it was like to work within the field. Our panelists included: Catherine Callahan, Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP; John Emanuele, Bose McKinney & Evans LLP; Victor Indiano, Indiano Law Group; Malissa Magiera, United States Patent and Trademark Office; Esther Sandlin, Ice Miller LLP; Robert Sharp, Eli Lilly and Company; David Wong, Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Douglas Yerkson, Bose McKinney & Evans LLP.

Following the landmark affirmative action decision by the United States Supreme Court last June, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (“DEI”) efforts across the country have been under attack.  Supporters of the decision, feeling emboldened, have launched a barrage of efforts to expand the scope of the decision and eliminate DEI initiatives across all industries.  However, as Justice Sotomayor aptly pointed out in her dissenting opinion, “diversity is now a fundamental American value, housed in our varied and multicultural American community that only continues to grow.  The pursuit of racial diversity will go on.” In keeping with these words, the Indianapolis Bar Association has developed a new DEI-centered event titled: IndyBar Unites: A Morning of Meaningful Conversations...

On February 8th, IndyBar's Law Student Division hosted its second Breakfast with the Bar of the spring semester with the discussion centered around the practice of Business Law!

The Law Student Division hosted attorneys from some of Indianapolis' largest law firms. The panelists shared with students their advice on how to stand out from the crowd when applying for various positions and how they found success in a big firm setting.
