Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) announced a new voluntary program, Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Advanced (“BPCI Advanced”) which expands on the previous BPCI program to pay participating providers a bundled payment based on performance for 32 types of clinical episodes.

I was very grateful to the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Health Care and Life Sciences Division for choosing me as the recipient of their annual AHLA Fundamentals of Health Law scholarship. It was an intellectually rewarding experience and I was honored that the IndyBar gave me the opportunity to build upon my Health Law background.

About 100 Hoosiers die from drug overdoses every month, many from opioids such as heroin and prescription painkillers. The widespread use of opioids is fueling one of the worst addiction crisis in United States history.

Indiana has the 17th-highest rate of overdose deaths of any state, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but is one of the hardest places to find treatment in the nation.
