This week, after the third reading deadline and bill exchange, each chamber began the legislative process all over again with the bills passed from the opposite chamber. Many of those bills passed first reading and were assigned to committee, for a total of 23 bills heard in committee.

People often disagree about how to run a business, and sometimes those disagreements can be so fundamental that the parties decide to split ways. This can cause problems with how to value the relative shares of the owners, and that problem is particularly acute if the person leaving is a minority shareholder in a closely held corporation. In this case, the court addresses how those shares should be valued under Indiana law.

The Indiana Office of Court Technology has created a new online tool for courts to display their daily dockets, allowing the press and public to know what hearings are scheduled on a given day. This calendar website also integrates with mycase.in.gov and the remote video hearings platform, making it easier for users to find case information and watch a hearing—if it is live-streamed.

Today, about one-third of active judges are women who serve as U.S. Court of Appeals judges, U.S. District Court judges, U.S. Magistrate judges, and U.S. Bankruptcy Court judges. In honor of Women’s History Month,  U.S. Courts feature women judges as part of its “Pathways to the Bench” video series and pay homage to the pioneers who paved the way.
