Since April 1, 2016, the real estate development community in Indianapolis has been working with the new zoning ordinances which were adopted at the conclusion of the Indy Rezone process.  As is the case with any approximately 700 page revision in the law, multiple errors and practical problems have already been found.

The honoree(s) will be recognized at the Real Estate and Land Use Section’s holiday party, currently scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Posthumous awards will be considered with the consent of the recipient’s family. More than one award may be given.

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo monthly Housing Market Index declined three points to a reading of 64 for September. The August reading was revised one-point from 68 to 67.

Richard Rothstein spent years studying why schools remained de facto segregated after Brown v. Board of Education. He came to believe that the problem of segregated schools could not be solved until the problem of segregated neighborhoods was addressed—and that neighborhoods were de jure segregated, not de facto.

A federal judge in Chicago on Wednesday tossed a lawsuit claiming Zillow is violating the Illinois appraisal law with its online “Zestimates” of market value.

Changes in Indiana law through Senate Enrolled Act 505, provided new recording fees effective July 1, 2017 for all 92 counties. However, the Indianapolis City-County Council was required to adopt an ordinance to maintain predictable recording fees. The Council unanimously passed the ordinance on July 10, 2017 effective August 1, 2017.
