Advanced directives are essential tools for ensuring one's wishes for medical and end-of-life treatment are known. Unfortunately, people with intellectual or developmental disabilities are often overlooked in discussions surrounding advanced directives. Thanks to a $35,000 grant from the Indianapolis Bar Foundation, a new program from Indiana Disability Rights will empower these individuals to make their important end-of-life choices known.

I am an associate at Hoover Hull Turner LLP, and I focus my practice on business and appellate litigation as well as professional liability defense. I have experience navigating complex litigation in both federal and state courts, representing commercial clients in disputes relating to trade secrets, non-competes, products liability and contract cases. I work almost daily with clients going through discovery and have learned that understanding e-discovery is a key part of the litigation process.

It can be challenging to keep up with the fast-changing law, practice and technology of e-discovery. The good news is there are many high-quality educational and training resources available at low (and even no) cost. The bad news? Between packed schedules and too-frequent emergencies, continuing education can easily fall by the wayside.

The American Bar Association recently awarded the Louis M. Brown Select Award to the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Virtual Ask a Lawyer program last week. Winning the award was quite a feat as the other finalists were programs run by state bar associations. This national recognition reveals the special and unique nature of our legal community, which is so willing to help those in need.
