Economic dependence is frequently cited as one of the most significant barriers to seeking help or leaving an abusive relationship. This article discusses how the Family & Medical Leave Act, the Affordable Care Act, Title VII and other relevant state laws play a role in assisting female victims of intimate partner violence maintain employment throughout their abuse.

In a 7-1 decision in the opinion for Azar v. Allina Health Services, issued June 3, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the Department of Health and Human Services failed to undergo proper notice-and-comment rulemaking in its new calculations for disproportionate share hospital payments.  

House Bill 1275, signed into law by Governor Holcomb on April 29 and effective July 1 of this year, codifies requirements related to sepsis that affect hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, physicians, schools and other key members of the health care space.  

CMS has been promising this guidance since at least 2016, and hospitals have been eagerly awaiting clarity on how they can structure their operations while being compliant with CMS policy.
