At the turn of the 21st century, gang culture dominated South Central Los Angeles. The two most prevalent gangs were the 11 Deuce Hoover and the Block Crips. Kiera Newsome's father, like most young men, had gravitated toward the gang lifestyle, so she was raised by her mother. Kiera's mother emphasized the importance of education and made sure her kids were receiving one.

The Indianapolis Bar Association has responded to the growing need for legal assistance in the community by expanding its free legal advice programs into a virtual chat service manned daily by attorney volunteers. The service, regularly available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, will be available for extended hours through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13. For individuals without access to the internet, phone-based assistance is also available from 6-8 p.m. on July 13 by calling 317-269-2000.

The Indy legal community is inching toward a return to pre-pandemic working environments, according to a recent survey by the Indianapolis Bar Association.

The Indianapolis Bar Association is saddened to note the passing of former Marion County Prosecutor and IndyBar member Terry R. Curry. Curry died at the age of 72 on Tuesday, June 29. Services will be held Saturday, July 10 at 2 p.m.
