On January 17, 2017, the General Term of the Marion Superior Court elected its new Executive Committee for the 2017-2018 Term.  Judge Timothy Oakes was elected to serve as the Presiding Judge.  Judge Sheila Carlisle, Judge Christina Klineman and Judge Heather Welch will join him on the Executive Committee as Associate Presiding Judges.

Once again, Indianapolis Bar Association members are encouraged to join us to talk with city representatives and the IndyBar Justice Center Task Force at the IndyBar offices on Tuesday, January 24th from noon to 1 p.m. regarding the latest developments and timeline on a new proposed Justice Center campus, as well as ideas for improvements to the processes used within the justice system in Marion County.

The judges of the Marion County Courts have given notice of a proposed amendments to the Marion County Local Court Rules concerning Probate Division Rules at LR49-PR00-401, LR49-PR00 Rule 403 and LR-PR00-413.

As we have previously reported, Mayor Joe Hogsett has expressed interest in improving our Marion County justice processes.  Early in his term he appointed several representatives to meet with primary and secondary stakeholders in the civil and criminal justice systems to identify micro and macro level ideas.  Primary stakeholders are those within city and county agencies.  Secondary stakeholders are all others, including the IndyBar.

On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana came under the leadership of a new chief judge, the Honorable Jane E. Magnus-Stinson. She assumed this position upon the expiration of Judge Richard L. Young’s term as chief judge.
