Congratulations to fellow IndyBar Member Katie Jackson-Lindsay, who was recently recognized by the National Bar Association. She was awarded with the National Bar Association's Women Lawyers Division Achievement Award for an Outstanding Woman Lawyer in a Solo/Small Firm.  The nominees were judged on demonstration of excellence in her area of specialty in the legal profession, leadership ability and influence to foster advancement of women in the profession, and volunteer service as a member of a charitable organization, professional association or as a mentor. We are so happy and proud of you Katie! Thank you for being an IndyBar member and your involvement in our division, and we wish you continued success in your practice.

In honor of Black Business Month (in case you did not know, it's August), I had the pleasure of speaking with Saidah Pearsall, owner of Shea BODYWORKS, a skincare and haircare company. Saidah's motivation behind Shea BODYWORKS is her daughter, who struggled with dry skin as a result of an intense gymnastics schedule when she was younger. When no other products on the market helped her daughter's skin (and her daughter's coach recommended using a product typically applied to animal hooves), Saidah took it upon herself to mix butters, oils and gels together to find the holy grail of moisturizers.

The spirit of Antoinette Dakin Leach lives on through each award winner including this year’s recipient, Judge Doris Pryor, who was recently nominated by President Joe Biden to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and currently sits on the federal bench at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. She exemplifies the definition of a trailblazer in the legal profession, as evident by her recent nomination.
