Member of the Month: Jessie Laurin Meek, Senior Managing Associate at Dentons 

Where are you from and where did you go to law school? 

I was born and raised in Indianapolis and graduated from the IU Maurer School of Law.

Tell us a little bit about your practice and what you enjoy about your practice area.

I am a commercial litigator at Dentons focusing in media law. I am drawn to media law because of the principles behind it: protecting the First Amendment and the public’s right to know newsworthy events. In commercial litigation more broadly, my favorite part of the job is developing practical and effective strategies to assist clients reach the best and most efficient result possible.

What is the most challenging thing about your practice? 

Finding the elusive work/life balance!

Why did you join the WLD? 

I joined WLD to get to know our legal community’s extraordinary and inspiring women. The Indianapolis Bar is top-notch, and I wanted to become more integrated and meet people I may not otherwise come across in practice. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the WLD Mentoring Program this year.

What are your favorite hobbies or recreational activities?

I love hanging out with my sweet dog, Wrigley. Also, I don’t do it enough, but I enjoy painting. I’ve taken a couple of classes at the Indianapolis Art Center and could not recommend it enough!

Any fun summer travel or plans?

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I went to Chicago to see a Cubs game with his family (did I say my dog’s name is Wrigley??).
