Amber Heard's Insurers Seek Reimbursement, Declaratory Judgment

Amber Heard is seeking insurance proceeds to help cover the recent $10.35 million verdict rendered against her in a defamation case brought by her former husband, Johnny Depp.  New York Marine and General Insurance Company has filed for declaratory judgment in a California federal court, seeking a declaration that it owes Heard nothing under its $1 million general liability policy because Heard’s defamatory statements were intentional acts, which are excluded under its policy.

In the same venue, Travelers Commercial Insurance Company filed a complaint against New York Marine for reimbursement for its share of over $8 million in legal defense fees for Heard stemming from the high-profile defamation case. New York Marine had offered to defend Heard at the outset, but selected its own counsel and did not participate with counsel of Travelers and Heard’s choice. Read more.
