#IMHO: If You Aren’t Talking Crafts, I Don’t Wanna Talk

In my humble opinion, you can never have too many paint-by-numbers. Bought some overpriced yarn just to turn it into an unusable patch? More power to you. In my humble opinion, crafts make the world go round. Okay – that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the sentiment remains. The joy of crafting is the joy of having a creative (and non-legal) outlet, the joy of trying new things and gaining new skills, and even the joy of failing. In other words, if you aren’t talking crafts, I don’t wanna talk.

So let’s talk. My current craft of choice is both something I very much enjoy and something I am very bad at. Pottery on the wheel. No, it’s not like the movie Ghost (although I’ve never actually seen it but apparently most people have). Yes, I’ve taken at least 6 pottery classes at Fountain Square Clay Center and have nothing to show for it but a dozen “pots” the size of ashtrays. But those ashtrays are mine and failing has been fun. In fact, it’s quite liberating to fail at something that allows for failure. It’s the joy of crafting.

So which craft have you been wanting to try? Pottery? Good luck. Paint-by-numbers? DO IT. Crochet? You have my full support. The possibilities are endless and so are the reasons to try something new. Crafting allows for simultaneous self-expression and self-discovery, success and failure, chaos and discipline. Crafting is freedom!
