Summer is officially here and what a better way to celebrate than by spending some time in nature!  Indianapolis in home to incredible options for hiking right here in the city.  For this month's #IMHO, Amanda Gallagher offers the following suggestions for getting away from it all while still staying close to the city.

Eagle Creek Park – Did you know Eagle Creek is one of the largest parks in the US?  This beautiful park is home to trials ranging from 1.25 to 6.25 miles at a variety of skill levels including easy, beginner, and family-friendly.  Check out the South Overlook Trail which boarders the Waterfowl Sanctuary to catch wildlife on your hike!

Fort Benjamin Harrison – This park occupies the former site of an Army post and provides some of the most scenic hikes in Indianapolis.  Trials range from easy paved paths to more difficult remote trials and vary in length from 1 mile to 4.2 miles.  Try the Camp Creek Trail Loop to feel totally immersed in nature as you pass by peaceful waterways.

Holliday Park – In addition to great events like Rock the Ruins and day camps for kids, Holliday Park has 3.5 miles of free access to trials.  Check out Trial 4 to enjoy scenic views of the White River!

The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park at Newfields – Adjacent to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields are 100 acres of forest, wetlands, meadows and 35-acre lake.   What makes this park extra special is the ever-changing installation of large site-specific art installations.  Be sure to check out Funky Bones by Atelier Van Lieshout which allegedly can be seen from a plane!

Happy hiking!
