By Justin Wiser, Attorney at Law
The Indiana General Assembly is in session and our legislators are debating important public policy decisions for our state, winter is here and it is time to join or renew your IndyBar membership! My term as chair of the section has ended and now we transition to the leadership of Helen Geib of Hoover Hull Turner LLP. We are in great hands!
Let me start by saying how incredibly grateful I am for having had the privilege to serve as chair. Helen marks the third chair ushered in during the novel coronavirus era and I cannot think of a more valuable professional affiliation to have had during such challenging times. Our practice areas of e-discovery, cybersecurity and information governance have been at the forefront of legal and business decisions with important implications across the board: the work from home revolution, healthcare with an emphasis on senior care, workplace safety and policies, etc. On numerous occasions, I have found support and motivation from my colleagues on this section's executive committee and your teamwork and willingness to help will always be appreciated.
In addition to strengthening our local relationships and networks, our section continued to build our national relationships and reach as well. We welcomed so many speakers from across the country, and this culminated in another successful E-Discovery Day. We are thankful to our industry and law firm partners and we will continue to build on these relationships with relevant CLEs and professional opportunities.
If you missed E-Discovery Day 2021, I wanted to share another highlight of my term. Our executive committee awarded our 2021 E-Discovery Professional of the Year award to Jennifer Tudor Wright of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Jennifer helped establish the early success of our section. She is a model of what our section aspires to promote in leadership and educating our bar on the emerging issues of e-discovery and information governance. The executive committee also recognized Jennifer’s contributions in the form of mentorship to the community, as she is always willing to spend time with new (and experienced) lawyers and share her vast experience and lessons learned in the space of e-discovery and knowledge management. Congratulations again, counselor!
Thank you again for all of the support I received from the IndyBar team, the section members and the executive committee. I hope you will renew your membership (and recruit a friend) to help make 2022 even better as we continue to expand our local and national influence in our respective spaces. And none of our achievements could have been possible without the efforts of Deneen Fitzgerald and her team, keeping us lawyers on schedule and providing outstanding performance of CLEs and events.
