Females Hit "Glass Ceiling" in Legal Profession for Third Straight Year

Female lawyers are still hitting the glass ceiling - for the third straight year, law firms have made negligible progress toward gender equality, according to Law360's 2016 Glass Ceiling Report's annual survey of more than 300 firms. Although women have made up close to 50 percent of graduates from U.S. law schools for the past decade and now comprise nearly 48 percent of summer associates, the percentage of female attorneys employed at every level of the legal industry remains firmly stuck where it has been for the past few years, the Report found. Women comprise 34% of all attorneys, 44% of nonpartners and 22% of partners, both equity and nonequity.
