Changes in Indiana law through Senate Enrolled Act 505, provided new recording fees effective July 1, 2017 for all 92 counties. However, the Indianapolis City-County Council was required to adopt an ordinance to maintain predictable recording fees. The Council unanimously passed the ordinance on July 10, 2017 effective August 1, 2017.

Washington state's tax system has been called the most regressive in the country, as the state collects no income tax nor do any of its cities. But Seattle is looking to change that: On Monday, its city council passed an income tax on its highest earners.
