The American Bar Association recently awarded the Louis M. Brown Select Award to the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Virtual Ask a Lawyer program last week. Winning the award was quite a feat as the other finalists were programs run by state bar associations. This national recognition reveals the special and unique nature of our legal community, which is so willing to help those in need.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, health care providers and entities have embraced and incorporated telehealth as a way of providing care to patients who would otherwise have lost access because of regulatory restrictions or their own hesitation with traveling to treatment centers. To remove barriers to telehealth, federal and state regulators waived or exempted prior restrictions related to the provision of telehealth at the outset of the pandemic. Since many of these waivers and exemptions were only temporary, providers and entities that deliver or offer telehealth need to be cognizant of and keeping pace with evolving compliance requirements.

The federal government frequently settles Anti-Kickback Statute enforcement matters with pharmaceutical manufacturers, including Pfizer, who pay the copays of Medicare beneficiaries using their drugs. Now Pfizer is suing the federal government to legalize the practice in the interest of patients.
