Thousands of people have been wrongfully convicted. More than 3000 people have been exonerated in the United States since 1989. The collective total amount of years lost is approaching 30,000 years.  There are many contributing factors to an innocent person being wrongfully convicted. Chief among them are mistaken witness identification, perjury or false accusation, false confession, false or misleading forensic evidence, and official misconduct. Recently, rapper Young Thug has been charged with conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO act and participation in gang activity. Lyrics from a plethora of his songs were listed in the indictment against him. Prosecutors in the case believe that Young Thug’s lyrics were "overt acts" that served to preserve, protect, and enhance the criminal enterprise that he is allegedly involved in.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb recently announced Jeffrey L. Marchal as his appointment to the Marion Superior Court. Mr. Marchal will succeed Judge Grant W. Hawkins who is retiring on September 30, 2022.

The new building's technology is going to be a marked improvement from our current arrangement. The evidence will be more accessible to the parties, their counsel, the court, the public and, most importantly, the jury. The technology was very user-friendly, but practice makes perfect. While many parts of the new building are likely to be a difficult transition, trials should run much more smoothly without the need to wheel televisions in and out of court during lunch breaks.
