Law Day Celebration - April 30, 2026
Law Day is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law. It was established as a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958. Congress established May 1 as the official date to celebrate each year. Law Day provides an opportunity to understand how law and the legal process protect our liberty, strive to achieve justice, and contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share.

Second Annual Law Day Rally
The Indianapolis Bar Association recognizes the importance of Law Day and will be holding its second annual celebration on April 30, 2026 at noon on the plaza of the Birch Bayh Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse. Legal professionals from across the state are encouraged to join in on a powerful demonstration reaffirming their responsibility to defend the rule of law, judicial independence, and the independence of the legal profession. IndyBar encourages all lawyers and judges in the state to join together on April 30. The collective presence sends a clear and powerful message of the state's legal professionals' unwavering commitment to the legal system. The event will be livestreamed on IndyBar's Facebook Account via Facebook Live should someone be unable to attend in person (See Below).
This annual Law Day Rally will provide a vital opportunity for attorneys, judges, paralegals and law students to:
- Emphasize the Rule of Law: Underscoring its immediate importance in safeguarding our democratic institutions and ensuring equal justice for all.
- Protect Judicial Independence: Highlighting the urgent need to shield the judiciary from undue influence and preserve its ability to impartially administer justice.
- Uphold the Independence of the Legal Profession: Reaffirming our ethical obligations and ensuring our ability to advocate for our clients without fear of reprisal or punishment.
- Promote Non-Partisan and Non-Violent Action: Illustrating how upholding rule of law, judicial independence, and legal independence is an apolitical endeavor and should be promoted peacefully and lawfully.
