The legal community is invited to attend the public robing ceremony of recently appointed Marion Superior Court Judge Richard Blaiklock on Thursday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Justice Center’s Jury/Public Assembly Room. There will be open seating with additional standing room available. The ceremony is expected to last less than one hour. Registration is not required. Open seating will be first come, first serve beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Jack H. Robinson recently joined the Indianapolis office of Ogletree Deakins as an associate. Jack’s practice focuses on employment law.


Ellen M. Townsend is now a partner at Goodin Abernathy LLP. She dedicates her practice to a full range of real estate and corporate law matters. She regularly represents businesses including residential and commercial real estate brokerages, inspectors, appraisers, trade associations, title and escrow companies throughout the state of Indiana.

Sara Blevins was recently promoted to Assistant General Counsel for Global Employment and Labor Relations at Cummins Inc. 


Beau Browning has joined Riley Bennett Egloff LLP as part of their health care law team. Beau will focus his practice on medical malpractice defense where he has nearly a decade of experience.


Amy M. Davis has partnered with Kate Franke and joined Broadwing Legal. Her legal focus is helping people who have been seriously injured or have lost loved ones due to someone else’s negligence.


Chuck Niblick has joined Ice Miller LLP. He focuses his practice on insurance coverage and recovery, asbestos litigation, commercial litigation, and products liability as an attorney in Ice Miller’s Litigation Group. 


Cassandra Nielsen was recently promoted to Member at Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC . She specializes in commercial litigation and construction law and regularly represents local and national companies involved in transactions and disputes.

   
Congratulations to Brandon Tate and Matt Land from Waldron Tate Bowen Land LLC as well as Steve Runyan and Kevin Koons from Kroger Gardis Regas on their $13.6 million jury verdict in favor of minority shareholders in a corporate breach of fiduciary duty case! In addition, the Jury awarded a set aside of a Trust holding certain shares of the corporation.

On Wednesday, February 21 at 3:30 p.m. members of the Bench and the Bar attended the robing ceremony for The Hon. Marie L. Kern. The room was full of friendly faces there to welcome and congratulate Judge Kern for her new role as a Marion Superior Court Judge.

Wendy Brewer has started a new position as Senior Counsel and Vice President at Old National Bank.


J. Michael Deweese has been named partner at Parr Richey Frandsen Patterson Kruse LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of utility and business law, including commercial and business litigation. 


Ryan L. Garner has joined Norris Choplin Schroeder LLP. He concentrates his practice in civil litigation, including insurance defense and coverage, workers’ compensation defense, asbestos, and business litigation. 


Todd G. Relue has joined Krieg DeVault LLP's Real Estate and Environmental Practice as a Partner. He concentrates his practice in the areas of complex litigation, environmental compliance, and commercial real estate with an emphasis on representing municipal clients in environmental cost recovery actions. 


Lexy Wright has joined Paganelli Law Group. She concentrates her practice on matters involving marriages, families, and children. Over the course of her career, she has also represented clients in civil and criminal matters.



In Memoriam
We honor the life and career of Indy legal community members we have recently learned passed on since our last Memorial Tribute. 


Benjamin T. Caughey passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 in his home in Carmel, IN. Ben was born on March 25, 1975, in Morgantown, WV. Ben grew up in Peoria, IL and graduated from the University of Illinois, with a BS in Education. After teaching for a year in Texas, he returned to the Midwest to earn his JD from Indiana University. Ben settled in Indianapolis after law school and had a long career as a bankruptcy attorney working mainly with corporate and small business clients. He was a past chair of IndyBar's Young Lawyers Division and a Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation.


Stephen E. DeVoe passed away on November 13, 2023. Stephen was born on August 19, 1935. Steve received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University in 1957. He attended law school at night while working full-time as a manufacturer’s representative. He graduated from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law with his JD. He worked with his father and brother Chuck in the L.M. DeVoe Company as representatives of electronics companies for several years. He was a partner with his mentor Gene Henderson in the law firm Henderson, Daily, Withrow and DeVoe. At the end of his working life, he was Of Counsel at Bose McKinney and Evans. During his career he was an active member of IndyBar and a Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation.

Hon. Andrew Bloch has been appointed Judge of the Hamilton Circuit Court. He has served as a magistrate judge in the circuit and superior courts there since 2019. Prior to his work as a magistrate, Judge Bloch was an attorney at Cross Pennamped Woolsey & Glazier, where he practiced family law and appellate law. He also serves as vice president of the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, where he has also held the roles of secretary and district representative.

     
Ann Marie WaldronBrandon Tateand Katie Piscione from Waldron Tate Bowen Land LLC along with Michael Simmons and Hannah Brady from Hume Smith Geddes Green & Simmons obtained a $159,000,000.00 jury verdict for their clients in Boone County. The case involved a head-on motor vehicle collision with a drunk driver that rendered their client a quadriplegic. This verdict is the highest reported jury verdict in Indiana history!


Kimberly DalSanto has been elected to Taft’s partnership. She concentrates her practice in the fields of commercial litigation and environmental law. 


Meg Peterson Darby has joined as an associate at Emswiller, Williams, Noland & Clarke LLC and will practice primarily in Family Law and Juvenile cases, including CHINS and TPR actions.


Adriana Figueroa recently moved into a position at the U.S. Attorneys Office as an Assistant United States Attorney with an emphasis on civil rights. Adriana is the first latina Assistant U.S. Attorney to work in the Civil Division at the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of Indiana. 


Houston Hum is now a partner at Wagner Reese LLP. Hum is skilled in investigating accidents, particularly those involving trucks. He has successfully handled lawsuits related to personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, construction defects, exposure to mold/toxic substances, accounting and legal malpractice, and product liability.


Kevin McGoff and the ABA have published the book: Find Your Landing Zone - Life Beyond the Bar. In the book, Kevin shares his experience of over thirty years in law firms, offering advice, career plans, and techniques for learning how to build both a robust law career and an affirming life outside of it. The content covers a combination of tools, advice, and inspiring stories that will spark the motivation you need to launch a new career, slow down a bit, or embark upon retirement. The book is available on AmazonBarnes and Noble, and through the ABA


Karen Butler Reisinger has started a new position as Director I - Employment Litigation & Compliance Counsel at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.


Lindsey Rothrock has been elected to Taft’s partnership. She assists clients in protecting their brands, creative works, and proprietary information.


Michael Williams has been named Chair of the Business, Acquisitions, and Securities Practice at Krieg DeVault LLP. He devotes his practice primarily to general corporate law, antitrust, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and financial services matters.

Judge Tom Alsip   died peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 7, 2024. He was 86. Tom was born November 20, 1937 on the south side of Indianapolis, near Garfield Park. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1970, and by then had been working out of the law offices of attorney Duge Butler, a prominent criminal defense attorney. Tom worked in various capacities in the criminal law system, including as a deputy prosecutor, as a public defender, as a special judge, as well as in private practice. In 1982, Tom became Judge of the Marion County Superior Court, Criminal Division 6, to which he had been appointed by then Gov. Robert Orr. Read the full obituary here.


Cane Legal LLC recently celebrated their five year anniversary. Congratulations on this milestone achievement!


Kimberly DalSanto was elected to the position of Partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. Kimberly concentrates her practice in the fields of commercial, civil, and environmental litigation.


Joseph Delamater has started a new position as Senior Associate Director for Equal Access and Equal Opportunity at Purdue University. In this role, he ensures that the University is in compliance with all aspects of the Americans with Disabilities Act.


Christine Douglas has started a new position as Owner/Attorney at Douglas Family Law LLC. Her practice focusses on all aspects of family law (i.e. divorces, custody modifications, adoptions, grandparent visitation, guardianships, paternity, seeking contribution from a parent for college expenses).


Jonathan Emenhiser  has been elected by his partners to serve as Managing Partner of the firm, effective January 1, 2024. Emenhiser succeeds Jeff Claflin, who concluded his service in this role at the end of 2023. Emenhiser represents businesses and individuals in a variety of complex litigation matters including commercial, insurance coverage and environmental litigation.


Amber Finley has joined the City of Lawrence, IN as Corporation Counsel. In this role she will provide legal guidance on various matters, including ordinances, contracts, and litigation involving the city.


Matt Giffin has rejoined Faegre Drinker in the Indianapolis Business Litigation Group. Matt Giffin represents clients in litigation and complex business disputes at every level of state and federal courts.


Thomas Hutchinson has joined Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis office where he counsels for-profit and nonprofit healthcare providers across the country. His practice focusses on executing complex transactions from start to finish.



Christina Kamelhair  has been promoted to shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Indianapolis office. Christina focusses her practice on a wide range of workplace issues including marijuana and drug testing, leave and accommodation, and discrimination and wrongful termination issues, among others. 


Julie Mahomed is now Assistant General Counsel at Heritage Construction + Materials. 


Anna Mallon has joined Drewry Simmons Vornehm and has been selected to serve as the President of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana for 2024. She concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance bad faith, insurance coverage and third party defense of insureds. Anna regularly practices in state and federal courts handling trials, summary judgment hearings, mediations and arbitrations.


Michael A. Moffatt, Jr. has joined Krieg DeVault as an Associate with the firm's Litigation Practice. Mr. Moffatt primarily devotes his practice to commercial litigation matters focusing on legal research and writing. 


Kevin Roberts has been promoted to shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Indianapolis office. His area of expertise is high-stakes labor and employment and breach of contract matters. He handles litigation, appeals, and proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Department of Labor, and other federal, state, and local agencies. 


Bob Schuckit has recently retired and closed Schuckit and Associates P.C. after 18 years of operation. Congratulations on your retirement!


Jim Strenski has been selected as the Treasurer of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana for 2024. He represents insurance companies in insurance coverage, insurance bad faith litigation, and third-party defense of insureds. He advises insurance companies pre-suit on issues of coverage and conducts examinations under oath. 


Tom Wheeler has joined Bose McKinney & Evans as a partner in our Education and Litigation Groups. He will also lead a new election and political law practice and serve as a principal at Bose Public Affairs Group.

Robert (Bob) Frye has been named Chief Legal Officer of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, doing business as IndyGo, which is the provider of urban mass transit services to Indianapolis and Marion County. 


Jamie Sayeed has joined Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law as a full time Visiting Professor with the health law program.
