Krieg DeVault LLP has named John Baxter as the new Commercial and Real Estate Lending Practice Chair. John focuses his practice primarily in the areas of real estate finance and development.


Michael Bishop, a long-time Indianapolis mediator and arbitrator, has now launched a solo private mediation practice - Bishop Mediation and Arbitration. Michael is a former member of IndyBar's Board of Directors along with numerous other leadership roles in the Indiana legal community.  He also currently serves on the Indiana Supreme Court's Diversity in ADR Committee.

Eric Buetens has been recognized by the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service as a 2022 Pro Bono Leader for his unique service through it's pro bono legal advice portal.  In 2022 Eric answered 308 civil legal questions for persons in need of assistance.  Eric is also an active volunteer for IndyBar's Virtual Ask a Lawyer online chat service made available via www.indybar.org and a member of IndyBar's Standing Committee on Pro Bono.


The Town of Speedway has announced the election of Philip Foust as Speedway Clerk-Treasurer. Philip was elected by vote of the local precinct committee members. Most recently working in residential and commercial real estate, he spent his career prior as a Marion County Deputy Prosecutor and as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom in Chicago.


Shelley Jackson has been named Krieg DeVault's new Labor and Employment Practice Chair. She focuses her practice in the areas of health law, employment law, and data privacy and security. Shelley is a former Vice President and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director for the IndyBar's Board of Directors.


Sarah Jones has been promoted to Partner with Krieg DeVault LLP. Sarah practices in the areas of corporate and real estate transactions.


Kate Juerling of Norris Choplin Schroeder LLP has been selected as a finalist for one of the United Way's ELEVATE awards. She is nominated for Volunteer of the Year for her work advocating for children through Kids' Voice of Indiana.  Kate is a member of IndyBar's Bar Leader Series Class XIX and a past chair of IndyBar's Professionalism Committee.


Stasia Demos Mills has accepted an invitation to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Joy's House.  Joy's House Adult Day Service provides care for Indianapolis residents living with physical and mental challenges while providing respite for caregivers.


Micah Nichols has also been promoted to Partner with Krieg DeVault LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and estate and trust administration.

Today the Marion County Judicial Selection Committee announced two panels of three nominees to fill two judicial vacancies. The Committee selected the following finalists for the vacancies created by the retirement of Judge Sheila A. Carlisle and Judge Steven R. Eichholtz:

For the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Sheila A. Carlisle:

  • Stephen R. Creason (IndyBar Member)
  • Magistrate David M. Hooper (IndyBar Member)
  • Magistrate Jason G. Reyome (IndyBar Member)

For the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Steven R. Eichholtz:

  • Magistrate Marie L. Kern (IndyBar Member)
  • Charles F. Miller
  • Magistrate James K. Snyder (IndyBar Member)

On January 30-31, the Committee interviewed 25 candidates. After deliberating in an executive session, the Committee publicly voted to send the two panels of three finalists to the Governor. According to Indiana law, the Committee is required to submit to the Governor “the three most highly qualified candidates” for appointment when a vacancy arises. Upon receiving the list, Governor Holcomb has 60 days in which to make appointments to the Marion County courts.

Due to inclement weather, Marion Circuit Court Judge Amber Collins has announced closure (not delay only) of the Marion Circuit and Superior Courts for January 25, 2023.  The Courts plan to resume normal operations on January 26.

Garner to Lead Marion Superior Courts

The Hon. Charnette Garner was recently elected by her peers to lead the Marion Superior Court as Presiding Judge. In addition to her duties as Presiding Judge, Judge Garner presides in Marion Superior Court 35, Criminal Division.  She is also President-elect of the Marion County Bar Association, a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association Board of Directors, and co-chair of the 2023 Bench Bar Conference.

A four-member executive committee oversees the Marion Superior Courts. Also elected to serve Marion County as a member of the new Executive Committee:

  • The Hon. Shatrese Flowers, Associate Presiding Judge
  • The Hon. Cynthia Oetjen, Associate Presiding Judge
  • The Hon. Marc Rothenberg, Associate Presiding Judge

The term of the Executive Committee will end in January 2025.

Jeffrey Claflin has been elected managing partner of Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP, marking the first time a member of the firm's South Bend office will occupy the firm's top leadership position. Jeff works primarily on insurance coverage cases, representing policy holders in complex disputes involving multiple clean-up sites and insurers, as well as non-environmental law cases. Jeff has been a member of IndyBar since 1990.

Anthony Carreri is now an Associate with Kroger Gardis & Regas LLP. Anthony is a member of IndyBar's Bar Leader Class 19 and focuses his practice in the areas of creditor's rights, bankruptcy, and civil litigation.

Ranissa Dycus is now a Johnson County Deputy Prosecutor. Ranissa is an active member of IndyBar's Criminal Justice Section Executive Committee and is Corresponding Secretary of the Marion County Bar Association.

Alexandra "Alex" Blackwell is now corporate counsel with Group 1001.  She began her career as an associate with Jeselskis Brinkerhoff & Joseph.


Congratulations to Elizabeth "Liz" Polleys Burden on her recent promotion to Lead, Tissue Diagnostics Franchise at Roche Diagnostics Corporation.


Mike Commons
has joined the team at the Indiana Bar Foundation as the Indiana Legal Help Manager. In this new role Mike will help Hoosiers gain access to free and low-cost legal information and resources.

Caitlin Jared is now practicing with the firm Drewry Simmons Vornehm LLP. Prior to joining the firm, Caitlin was with Schultz & Pogue LLP.


Amy L. VonDielingen
has joined Krieg DeVault LLP as a partner in the firm's Business and Estate Planning and Administration practice groups.  Amy was formerly with Dinsmore Shohl LLP.

Anna K. Cron has joined Taylor, Chadd, Minnette, Schneider & Clutter, P.C. Crone began her career as a law clerk for the firm while attending law school and officially joined the firm as an associate last month. Cron earned her B.A. from DePauw University in 2019 with a major in political science and a minor in philosophy. Her J.D. followed in 2022. She graduated from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. She was an associate editor for the Indiana Law Review and a member of the Civil Practice Clinic while in law school.
