Whether from a friend's car accident, a slip-and-fall at a client's business, or a workplace injury that surfaces during an unrelated matter, even attorneys who don't practice personal injury regularly encounter clients with PI questions. This session gives non-PI practitioners the working knowledge needed to spot issues, advise clients on immediate next steps, and recognize when (and how) to refer a case. Attendees will leave with a checklist for triaging any basic PI matters that walk in the door.
In this seminar we'll cover:
- fundamentals of Indiana negligence law
- statutes of limitations and notice requirements (including the Indiana Tort Claims Act)
- comparative fault and damages categories
- dealing with insurance adjusters and liens
- practical mechanics of referral arrangements and fee-sharing under the Rules of Professional Conduct
Featuring: Matthew S. Bigler, Ladendorf Fregiato & Bigler
