Public-Safety Income Tax Increase Approved by Indianapolis Council

On Monday, September 8, the Indianapolis City-County Council approved a 43 percent increase to the public-safety income tax. This increase was proposed by Mayor Greg Ballard, and part of the additional revenue will go toward finding additional police recruits.

This policy will not be effective until Jan. 1, 2015. The former public-safety income tax was 0.35 percent and will be raised to 0.5 percent after the policy is implemented.
