The Indianapolis Bar Association centered its February Breakfast with the Bar event on Intellectual Property (IP). A diverse contingent of attorneys attended this event and shared valuable practical wisdom with roughly 30 IU McKinney Students.

The participating attorneys included Brad Addison, Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Trezanay Atkins, Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Elizabeth Baumhart, Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP; Rocky Cislak, Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Payton DuBose, Barnes & Thornburg LLP; and Lindsey Rothrock, Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. The attorneys’ backgrounds varied between Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, and Trade Secrets, with at least one of each being represented at the event. Some of the main talking points for each group were: what steps should students take to get an initial IP job; how students can get quality knowledge and experience in IP as a law student; what IP firms look at when hiring students; and more.

This event ultimately fostered a friendly learning environment for students to learn aspects of IP law that is not readily available to other students. For instance, numerous students learned that a STEM background is not required to practice with Trademark, Copyright, and Trade Secrets. Overall, the event was successful and it provided a valuable and enjoyable experience for interested IP students. Stay tuned for future Breakfast with the Bar events.
