City of Indianapolis Adopts New, Completely Online Filing Process for Land Use Petitions

The City of Indianapolis, Department of Metropolitan Development (“DMD”) announced in late September that it will move to a new online petition filing process effective October 3, 2022. In announcing the new online process, DMD provided the following information:

Filing a Rezone, Variance, Regional Center approval or another land use petition? On Monday, October 3, 2022, the City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development's Division of Current Planning rolled out its new submission process for all land use petitions on indy.gov. Innovating a decades old process, DMD has provided for a simplified user-experience at a time when petition submissions are at a historic high.

Similar completely electronic filing processes have adopted in some other metro area communities following the reopening of in-person meetings after the COVID public health emergency.
