One out of 10 elders in the United States are victims of "maltreatment" every year, and attorneys want to help out. In a survey, 90% of responders said that would take part in a campaign to raise awareness about the issue, and over 90% say that elder investment fraud and financial exploitation is a "very serious" or "somewhat serious" problem.

Several organizations have coordinated to organize the Elder Investment Fraud and Finanical Exploitation Prevention Program, which will develop, test and implement a national continuing legal education program for lawyers. The CLE would help attorneys recognize clients vulnerability to elder abuse, identify elder abuse in their clients and report suspected instances of elder abuse to officials.
