Pro Bono Service Opportunities for Government Practice Section Members - Government Practice News

We recognize that getting pro bono hours can be a challenge for government attorneys, so we want to pass along a great opportunity for pro bono hours. The IndyBar operates a Virtual Help Desk on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that is in need of volunteers.

The Virtual Help Desk offers visitors an opportunity to chat with lawyers and get general legal advice through the IndyBar's virtual platform. The IndyBar just needs lawyers willing to have the website running in the background and respond if an inquiry comes in (a helpful chime will sound to let you know an inquiry has been submitted).

Do not worry about needing to know specific areas of law in order to volunteer. The IndyBar has a variety of fantastic resources that they provide to volunteers, including a detailed FAQ reference guide on common questions, a COVID-19 FAQ and guidelines for fielding requests for lawyer referrals.

The IndyBar's signup process allows you to select the times you want to volunteer, whether that is morning, afternoon, or just an hour at a time. It is really convenient to volunteer during times you are otherwise just sitting at a desk working because the application runs in the background and you only have to respond when an inquiry comes in.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like additional information, please reach out to Kari Hartman at khartman@indybar.org.

If you would like to submit content or write an article for the Government Practice Section, please email Deneen Fitzgerald at dfitzgerald@indybar.org.
