The 2022 session of the Indiana General Assembly came to a close during the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, March 9. The short session was short in name only, with a wide range of heavy issues debated by the legislature, including the interplay between the legislative and executive branches of state government, employment matters and tax reform. On May 17, 2022, join the seven of the General Assembly’s lawyer-legislators to discuss the impacts that the 2022 legislative session will have on the practice of law in Indiana. This in-person event will take place in the Regions Tower (1 Indiana Square, Indianapolis) at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.
The CLE will be is chaired by Indiana State Representative Greg Steuerwald, who also serves as a partner at Steuerwald Witham & Youngs LLP in Danville, Indiana. Representative Steuerwald will moderate presentations and discussions of zoning and business matters, legislation impacting employment law, updates to Indiana probate code, criminal matters, tax reforms and the impact of the session on government law and the Indiana regulatory scheme. Legislators will also provide a preview of issues that are top-of-mind for legislators ahead of the 2023 legislative session.
Among the issues discussed will be HEA1001, which contains provisions limiting employer vaccine mandates, HEA1282 Exoneration Payments and the since-vetoed HEA1211, State and Local Administration. HEA1211 includes provisions amending the use of emergency rules, revised timelines for state agencies to readopt rules and adds requirements for agencies to adopt administrative rules.
Presenters and panelists will feature State Senators Liz Brown and Travis Holdman as well as State Representatives Ed DeLaney, Ryan Hatfield and John Young, all of whom are lawyer members of the Indiana General Assembly.
