You spoke and we listened. Government Practice Section members want more CLE, more networking opportunities and more legislative updates from the section, and we aim to deliver on those goals in 2022.
Starting in May, we are planning a series of events that offer CLE and networking opportunities, including frequent partnerships with other practice sections.
We have partnered with the Sports & Entertainment Law Section to do a combined CLE and networking event on May 5 entitled "Distilling the Basics of Making Liquor and Dram Shop." This program features practitioners experienced in the field as well as Hilary Barnes, the founder and Chief Legal Officer of the popular Indy distillery Hotel Tango. The event concludes with a free tasting of Hotel Tango Distillery spirits! You can sign up for this event here.
Also in May, we are finalizing plans to partner with the Indiana State Bar Association for an extended CLE recapping the recent legislative session. The program will feature Indianapolis-area members of the General Assembly discussing major legislation from the past session moderated by Rep. Steuerwald. You can sign up for the event here!
In August, September and October, we are working on setting up a series of combined CLE/social/networking events where practitioners can come and meet the general counsels of various state agencies. The idea is to partner with different practice sections and have a panel of relevant state agencies give short updates on developing issues and agency priorities followed by a Q&A period where practitioners can ask questions. We'll end the program with a social/networking event. These events will offer opportunities to break down walls that separate public and private attorneys and build the personal relationships that can prove so important in our work. If these events are successful, the format can be expanded and become a regular feature of the Government Practice Section.
In November, we anticipate doing a CLE centered around administrative rulemaking and judicial review. The program would cover the results of the task force created by SEA 264 (2022) to review the administrative rulemaking process as well as potential legislation that could be coming in the 2023 session.
In December, we are planning to have a networking/social event (no CLE) where attorneys discuss their transition from the public to the private sector, how to make the transition and practical considerations to consider (including post-employment restrictions.)
