Government Practice Section Survey Results

In February, the Government Practice Section did a brief survey of our membership to see what you wanted and how we can better serve your needs this year. Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to respond.  We value your feedback and want to make the Government Practice Section the best it can be for our members.  

The results of the survey are discussed below with a follow up post discussing how we are responding to your feedback.

We had 21 responses and the practice areas of the respondents were:

• 24 percent private sector
• 38 percent public sector-state 
• 19 percent public sector-municipal 
• 10 percent law students
• 5 percent paralegal or legal support

In terms of overall satisfaction with the offerings of the Government Practice Section, the responses were:

• 20 percent Excellent
• 35 percent Very Good
• 25 percent Good
• 20 percent weak
• 0 percent Poor

In terms of the top two items respondents wanted from the Government Practice Section this year, the responses were: 

• 77 percent continuing education
• 46 percent professional networking events
• 38 percent news or legal updates
• 15 percent non-legal social events
• 15 percent mentorship opportunities

We also received many comments in response to the questions about areas to focus on to make the section more valuable to members and topics for upcoming CLEs including: 

• "I would like more options to connect with other attorneys that work for federal, state, local government agencies in the area."
• "Professional networking events so that government practice members can meet, interact and learn from each other."
• "I would like to see more networking/mentorship opportunities, so I can get to know other government lawyers."
• "More CLEs."
• "More events/networking opportunities."
• "Anything touching on state or local government, legislative updates, employment."
• "Attorneys from different government agencies sharing their work, changes in their agencies and practice areas."
• "Legislative updates, cover any major changes in state administrative procedure, work/life balance
• "AOPA regs."

In a follow up post, we will discuss how we are incorporating this feedback into our event planning for the year.
