On Thursday, March 24, the IndyBar Law Student Division provided an opportunity for law students to learn from and connect with local practitioners in the field of personal injury law. These well-known and experienced practitioners shared their vast professional knowledge and experience, providing law students with great insight into the practice of personal injury law.
In attendance were Lee Christie and Tina Bell of Christie Farrell Lee & Bell PC, Barath Raman of Lewis Wagner LLP, Bruce Kehoe of Wilson Kehoe Winingham, Alex Limontes of Hurst Limontes LLC and Chuck Niblick of Katz Korin Cunningham. These attorneys represented a great range of the practice of personal injury law in Indianapolis. The categories of general plaintiffs’ work, medical malpractice and insurance defense were all equally represented among the attorneys in attendance.
The attorneys provided forward-thinking and practical advice during the breakfast. They provided an overview of the personal injury litigation process and discussed best practices when counseling clients who are going through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Additionally, the attorneys discussed the value of collegiality and professionalism when communicating with opposing counsel. The attorneys also discussed their own career paths, providing evidence to each student that every experience and connection could lead to future professional growth and opportunity.
Student attendee Katrina Ornelas stated, "The event gave me a greater insight into the nuances of personal injury law. The attorneys outlined the practice from both the plaintiff and defense side, which gave me a better understanding of what it is like to serve as a personal injury attorney. Every case is different, but today we learned ways of negotiating and advocating for clients no matter which side we are on. Big thank you to all the students, staff and attorneys for making this exchange possible!"
Thank you to the six practitioners for offering their time to discuss their own career paths and current roles, and thank you to the many students who attended the event to learn about this field of law. For those students who weren’t able to make it, we hope to see you at our next Breakfast with the Bar on Tuesday, April 12 at 8 a.m. to discuss non-traditional practice!
