IDEM Announces New Cleanup Guidance: Learn About it at Our Upcoming CLE!

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has published a revision to its remediation closure guidance, which addresses contaminated site investigation, remediation and regulatory closure under various IDEM programs, including the State Cleanup, Voluntary Remediation, Leaking Underground Storage Tank, RCRA Corrective Action and Brownfields Programs. The existing Remediation Closure Guide (RCG) is to be replaced by the Risk-based Closure Guide, nicknamed "R2."

IDEM announced this guide in conjunction with a "Nonrule Policy Document Briefing Paper" and has requested public comment, suggesting that IDEM is planning on presenting the Risk-based Closure Guide to the Environmental Rules Board for adoption as a nonrule policy document. IDEM’s website indicates that the public comment period will be accepted until April 7, 2022. The Risk-based Closure Guide and briefing paper may be found at the following links:
