Indiana Bankruptcy Filings Continue to Decline in 2021 - Commercial & Bankruptcy Law News

As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued, the decline in bankruptcy filings in the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana has aligned with the rest of the country and continued through 2021.

In the Northern District, bankruptcy filings in 2021 dropped by approximately 17.6 percent, with 5,634 cases filed. Of these, 4,193 Chapter 7 cases were filed, 20 Chapter 11 cases were filed and 1,419 Chapter 13 cases were filed. Comparatively, in 2020, 6,833 cases were filed, in 2019, 9,096 cases were filed, and in 2018, 8,935 cases were filed. Since 2019, bankruptcy filings in the Northern District have dropped 38.1 percent. This graph and chart illustrate the decline in cases filed in the Northern District since 2018.
