The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that approximately 17.5 acres of city-owned land are up for redevelopment in downtown Indy in addition to the private redevelopment of the Circle Center Mall. Some of the sites include Jail I, Jail II & APC, the Heliport, the City Market, Old City Hall and the City-County Building with RFPs having already been issued on City Market, Jail II & APC and an RFI on City-County Building. To date, at least nine firms have responded to the RFPs. With so many sites up for redevelopment at once, there are plenty of opportunities for attorneys and our clients to make a big mark downtown. The Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD), under the leadership of Director Scarlett Andrews, will be the key city agency driving downtown redevelopment. If you are interested in learning more about DMD’s plans for downtown and meeting Director Andrews and her leadership team, please attend the Real Estate and Land Use Section’s Introduction to DMD Leadership CLE on April 20, 2022.
