Thanks to the help of Ice Miller LLP, the IndyBar Legislative Committee is currently monitoring select real estate and land use related legislation, and you can view the report here. Check out additional legislative updates and the full bill watch report below.

It’s THE LAST WEEK of the 2022 Indiana General Assembly

Legislators in both chambers concluded their business just after midnight on Wednesday, March 9, bringing an early end to the short session.

In all, of the 909 filed bills, 177 passed both chambers and are headed to Governor Holcomb’s desk. The Speaker, Senate President Pro Tem, and Lieutenant Governor (as the President of the Senate) must sign each bill passed as soon as practicable, but not later than seven calendar days after the sine die adjournment. Thereafter, the legislation must be presented to Governor Holcomb within the same seven calendar days after the sine die adjournment.  Once a bill reaches the governor's desk, the governor has seven days to take action pursuant to the Indiana Constitution, Article 5, Section 14.

Wednesday, March 23, is the final deadline for the governor to act on the bills he received this session. Governor Holcomb may sign or veto a bill, or leave it unsigned. If he does not act upon the legislation, it shall become law without his signature eight days after presentment.

The updated bill tracking report can be found here. Legislators have filed a number of COVID-related bills; we have included those in a separate “COVID Legislation” tracking report that can be viewed here.

Bill Watch Reports will continue to be updated until all eligible bills have been signed by Governor Holcomb.
