Suit Against Amazon Alleges its Unrealistic Demands on its Delivery Drivers are Causing Traffic Collisions

A motorcyclist who lost his leg in a collision with an Amazon delivery truck has filed a lawsuit asserting that Amazon’s corporate policies are creating unsafe demands on its drivers. The lawsuit alleges that Amazon supplies GPS navigation devices to map out their delivery routes and it was an Amazon driver focusing on the GPS navigation device instead of watching the road that led to the collision that caused a motorcyclist to lose his leg. According to the lawsuit, Amazon drivers are required to utilize the Amazon Flex app to perform their deliveries, which forces its delivery drivers to take their attention off of the road and traffic around them. The Flex app notifies drivers when they are falling behind Amazon’s predicted delivery schedule and refers to being late as being "behind the rabbit." According to the suit, Amazon drivers can have their pay reduced if they fall "behind the rabbit," which causes drivers to drive in a negligent manner to keep up with the Amazon delivery schedule.
