For the third time, Massachusetts General Hospital has settled a lawsuit asserting that the hospital was overbilling for a surgeon’s simultaneous oversight of multiple surgical procedures. The hospital, a Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital, routinely double-booked surgeries to be overseen by the same surgeon resulting in overbilling for the procedures and keeping patients under anesthesia for prolonged periods of time because its surgeons were alternating between procedures in dual operating rooms. These claims were brought to light by a whistleblower who was concerned about patient safety and transparency. Read more from U.S. News & World Report.
