Name, firm and position at firm:
My name is Wes Overturf and I am a partner at Overturf Fowler LLP.

What is the focus of your practice?
I focus my practice in creditors' rights, bankruptcy and bankruptcy litigation.

How long have you been practicing?
Fifteen years.

How long have you been in Indy?
I was born in Indy in 1982, and except for a period of time that I studied in Vienna, Austria and law school in Dayton, Ohio, I have lived in the Indy area all my life.

What do you value most about the practice of law?
Helping clients solve problems.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Spending time with my wife and kids, riding a bike, swimming and coaching my kids' soccer teams.

What are some of your goals for the section this year? What are you most excited about for the section?
I would like to see the section provide meaningful continuing education and opportunities for its members to collaborate and work together like no other bar is able to in the city.

What’s one piece of advice you’ve learned from your years of experience in the field?
The best piece of advice that I have learned was taught to me by my dad, but I have found it to be applicable in nearly every matter I have become involved, and I share with clients most often: "Take offs are optional; landings are mandatory." My dad preached this to me growing up, and it was his way of reminding me that I needed to have a plan and think through things before moving forward. Anyone can file a bankruptcy or a complaint. What distinguishes the best lawyers from all the rest is having a plan for the "landing."

Anything else section members should know about you?
If any one wants to know something about me – just ask. I am generally an open book at the expense of sometime being too blunt.
