Information regarding procedures, schedules and more for attorneys visiting the new Marion County Adult Detention Center or communicating with an inmate is now available. The information below was disseminated by the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
The Marion County Adult Detention Center is located at 695 Justice Way, Indianapolis, IN 46203.
Procedure
Professionals shall enter through the courthouse (675 Justice Way). After passing through security, professionals shall veer right for the Sheriff’s building entrance.
Professional visitors shall check-in at the information window inside the Sheriff’s Building. Following check-in, the professional will be escorted to the security check point in the Adult Detention Center, then on to the attorney visitation room.
Both the professional visitors and inmates are required to wear masks. Cleaning solution (or hard surface wipes), hand sanitizer, and towels shall be made available in each visiting area. The visitor and inmate shall be permitted to wipe the area prior to use. Both the professional visitor and inmate shall sanitize their hands upon entry to the visitation room.
Upon completion of the visit or should the professional visitor need to reach Marion County Sheriff's Office staff, while in the attorney visitation room, the visitor shall pick up the receiver to the phone located inside the room. This phone will automatically ring Marion County Sheriff's Office staff for assistance.
The professional visitor and inmate shall wipe their side of use at the end of each visit to ensure it sanitized and ready for the next use.
All previous rules, regulations, and SOP’s reference dress, personal carriers, electronics, inmate contact, and deliverance of legal materials shall be adhered to.
*Exception. Inmates whom are quarantined shall be limited to telephonic and remote video visits unless circumstances require in-person contact. Arrangements shall be made on a case by case basis to conduct these visits.
Scheduling
Appointments shall be available from Monday through Sunday, 08:00-20:00 hrs. (last appt ending at 21:00). However, no appointments shall be scheduled between the times of11:00-13:00 and 17:00 – 19:00.

Professional visitors shall telephone 317-327-1554 to schedule for the following day (i.e.: Monday for Tuesday, Friday for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, etc.).
Onsite visits shall be by appointment only and scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
A scheduled visit may include an interpreter if circumstances require such.
One time block per inmate shall be scheduled.
No more than two consecutive appointments shall be scheduled per attorney.
Time for visits that are delayed due to the late arrival of an inmate or visitor shall only be adjusted if the schedule permits. Rescheduling onsite shall be permitted as a courtesy when delays occur.
Professional Visitors with the need to obtain a signature only, do not need to schedule an appointment. They shall send the document electronically to the facility in which the inmate is located. The requested signature will be obtained and returned electronically to the sender.
Remote Visitation
Professional remote visitation is available free of charge for attorneys.
- Create a profile at https://visit.telmate.com/ (also referred to as GettingOut®).
- Email MCSO-Visitation@indy.gov. Send a copy of professional credentials and advise you’ve registered for remote visitation.
- Select facility: Marion County IN Adult Detention Center. Choose your inmate.
- Visitation will notate the account to allow free and non-recorded video visits.
- Professionals may begin scheduling remote visits.
Privileged Phone Calls
An attorney may request that an inmate call them.
- For an attorney phone call request, the attorney shall email MCSO-Visitation@indy.gov with their name and contact number.
- An electronic message will be sent to the inmate. Please note, it is the inmate’s responsibility to check his/her account for messages. No additional information will be given to the inmate. No privileged information shall be shared as this function is not private.
- The attorney shall have a telephone number marked as free and non-recorded by submitting a request via the MCSO-Visitation@indy.gov email address. The attorney will be required submit or re-submit credentials for verification. The request will be forwarded to the Inmate Services Supervisor to complete. Please note, the Marion County Public Defender Agency’s number is already set up for this. However, if the PD is using a non-forwarded cell number or landline, that number will require submission to be marked as privileged.
