The ABA is hosting a 90-minute ethics CLE webinar on USPTO practitioner rules on Dec. 14 from 1-2 p.m. EST. It is free for ABA members and $100 for non-members. Here is a description of the program and a link to register.

USPTO Practitioner Rules: Ethics and Patent Pro Bono Program [CC]

USPTO Office of Enrollment and Discipline Staff Attorney Timothy Rooney discusses OED programs, describes the disciplinary process, and concludes with a discussion of case law pertinent to practice before the USPTO. The Patent Pro Bono Program for independent inventors and small businesses will also be discussed.

OED provides an overview of several core aspects of legal ethics and practice before the USPTO. The program begins by briefly touching on various OED programs and initiatives, and then moves to a description of select regulations governing the USPTO's disciplinary process and statistics regarding recent disciplinary orders. The program concludes with a thorough discussion of select case law relevant to practice before the USPTO in patent and trademark matters with an emphasis on USPTO disciplinary decisions and the USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct. The Patent Pro Bono Program for independent inventors and small businesses will also be discussed. A Pro Bono participant will speak about their experience with the program.
