Leading a non-profit organization brings with it issues and concerns that can derail the organization from its important mission-focused work. With the help of the Indianapolis Bar Association Business Law Section, local non-profit leaders will be better able to focus on their organization's more impactful work.
In this effort, the section has developed a Non-Profit Toolkit designed to help non-profit leaders alleviate burdens and obstacles often faced by their organizations. The toolkit, which includes seasoned guidance, resources, sample documents and more, is free to download for non-profit organizations.
"While this toolkit is not comprehensive and you should always consider seeking your own legal advice, we hope that it alleviates some of the burdens and obstacles that many nonprofit corporations run into and allows those organizations to focus their time, energy and other resources on their charitable purposes," says 2021 IndyBar Business Law Section Chair Brian M. Heaton of Krieg DeVault LLP.
The toolkit includes important information like how to start a non-profit organization, an overview of key documents needed, guidance on the federal income tax exemption application process, as well as documents like sample articles of incorporation, sample bylaws, sample initial resolutions and more. The toolkit also includes a thorough listing of local and national resources for non-profit organizations.
This toolkit is free for IndyBar members and for non-profit organizations. IndyBar members can download the toolkit here, where it can also be purchased by non-member attorneys and legal professionals. Non-profit organizations can access the toolkit by simply filling out the request form located at indybar.org/toolkit. Once complete, the information will be reviewed and the organization will be contacted with instructions on how to access the toolkit.
