With the world returning to a new normal, the IndyBar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) has been able to return to its regularly scheduled social event calendar highlighted by its annual Summer Associate Scavenger Hunt and Cornhole Tournament.

On July 16, the YLD held its annual Summer Associate Scavenger Hunt which gives summer associates, law students, and interns the opportunity to know the city—and one another—with a little friendly competition. This year, the YLD also invited new attorneys (those that have practiced for fewer than three years) to join in on the fun if they haven’t had a chance to join the scavenger hunt in the past.

The scavenger hunt began at IndyBarHQ, where participants were organized into teams before heading off in search of various Indianapolis landmarks and destinations.  Teams went through downtown and as far Goose the Market collecting photos, souvenirs, and trivia answers to score points.

Teams were scored based on the numbers of placees they checked off their sheets.  The competition was close but ultimately Courtland Grangier (Summer Law Clerk at the Office of the Indiana Attorney General); Natalie Wichern (Summer Associate at Bose McKinney & Evans); Cayla Irlbeck (Associate at Schuckit and Associates); and Alexander Fay (Associate at Schuckit and Associates) prevailed.  At the end of the scavenger hunt the teams and members of the YLD Executive Committee met at Kilroy’s for food, drinks, and companionship. Look forward to profiles of these new and aspirsing lawyers on the IndyBar blog in the comings months!

Next on the social calendar was the annual YLD Cornhole Tournament on August 7 at Centerpoint Brewing Company. A fan favorite, the tournament was well attended with over 16 teams competing for the title. Ultimately, Mike Etienne and Kendall Griffin held off the competition to win their second tournament in a row.

The tournament was a great opportunity for the YLD members to get back together with friends and colleagues and grab a beverage and lunch between rounds of showing off their cornhole skills.

Thank you to all of the participants in both events and to Kilroy’s and Centerpoint Brewing for their hospitality to the YLD and the competing members!
