It's hard to escape news involving famous people. Even harder when there is a whole movement calling attention to a specific story. “Free Britney” is a movement that started in social media when the public learned of the pop singer's strict conservatorship. Jamie Spears, her father, has been the acting conservator of Britney’s estate, valued at around $60 million. Her father still has the role even though he stated publicly that he would step down as conservator, according to a September 1, Reuters article.

According to the report, Mathew Rosengart, Britney’s current lawyer, stated in a filing with the Los Angeles Superior Court that Jamie Spears asked for additional payments before his departure. The filing was made in anticipation of a September 29 hearing. Rosengart also stated that Britney’s father “is obligated to step down without condition and without seeking to extract anything further from his daughter.”

One cannot say with certainty that the “Free Britney” movement pressured her father to step down. But we can agree that the movement shined a bright light on her situation. I confess that I will search for the results of the hearing on or after September 29th, to hopefully see that the Court suspended Jamie Spears. More to come to your national news.
