Senate Confirms Janet McCabe as Deputy EPA Commissioner

Hoosier Janet McCabe was recently confirmed by the United States Senate as Deputy Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. She will serve as EPA’s second highest-ranking official under EPA Administrator Michael Regan. McCabe is a former IDEM official who worked at EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation under President Barack Obama. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law and Director of the Environmental Resilience Institute at Indiana University. The Senate voted 52-42 to confirm the nomination, with Republican Senators Susan Collins (Maine), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) joining most Democrats to vote in favor of confirmation. Senator Joe Manchin (West Virginia) was the only Democrat to vote against McCabe’s confirmation. Both of Indiana’s Senators, Mike Braun and Todd Young, voted against confirmation.
