Our profession rewards vigilance, urgency, and precision. But these same habits that make us effective (spotting risk, anticipating conflict, and staying constantly available) can also keep our bodies’ stress response activated long after the workday ends. The results include increased anxiety, sleep disruption, irritability, reduced concentration, and no surprise, burnout. In 2019, I discovered a solution that works for me, and I’m excited to share it with all of you! Join me on August 13, 2026, for Rage and Rest: Using Endorphins and Mindfulness to Reset. Keep reading to learn more!

As we conclude our Common Circle Spotlight series, we’re excited to highlight a group that brings connection through movement, conversation, and a shared commitment to wellness: the Walk the Block Common Circle. Designed to encourage attorneys to step away from their desks and into a more active routine, this group creates space to recharge while building relationships across the IndyBar community.

More than just a walking group, Walk the Block offers a chance to reset during the day, enjoy fresh air, and engage in informal, meaningful conversation with colleagues in a relaxed setting. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that community can be built one step at a time.

In this final spotlight, Monica McCoskey shares her own well-being journey, her vision for the Walk the Block Common Circle, and how incorporating movement into the rhythm of professional life can support both well-being and connection.

Networking often carries with it unflattering interpretations: appearing to be friendly when, in fact, looking to leap over others in the business, profit from your friendships, or, perhaps worse. “Fake it (friendships) ‘til you make it” is another often heard phrase.

Judge Tim Oakes, Marion Superior Court, sits down with IndyBar staff (Deneen Fitzgerald and Bryssa Helton) to talk about authentic networking. Real relationship building and the benefits of developing a community-oriented network.

Judge Oakes speaks about the lessons he learned from George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life (1946). By listening, you'll hear how the "help others before you help yourself" theme personally shaped Judge Oakes's approach to being more curious, paying more attention to others, and how genuine investment has personally benefited his career.
