As chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, I want to encourage all mediators to become active in our section! Attendance at our one hour CLE programs is a great way to get your needed CME/CLE hours.
On August 8, we sponsored a one hour program on mediating will, trust and estate disputes. Attendance was terrific with 40 people! If you weren't able to make this one, you can catch up by watching the video replay here.
Our next seminar is September 19 from 3 to 5 p.m., titled "Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation – What Do Judges Expect?" We are looking for a full-house for this event, as the judges will explore ADR expectations from multiple levels of the court. You'll also have the chance to mingle and chat with them and other section members at a social following! Register for that program here.
We're also currently searching for IndyBar mediators to volunteer for this fall's Paternity Court Mediation Day to be held on September 22 at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Spots for the spring event filled quickly, so don't hesitate and email Phyllis Armstrong at phyllis@childadvocates.net if you're interesting in volunteering to mediate modest means cases.
We're co-sponsoring a seminar with the Family Law Section on November 2, covering changes to and implementation of the new parenting coordination rules, effective January 1, 2017. Registration is open early, so reserve your seat now! We're in the process of planning one or two more programs for the remainder of the year, so keep an eye on the IndyBar calendar for details!
If you are interested in becoming a member of our executive committee for 2018, or have an idea for an upcoming seminar, please contact me or any member of the committee. I hope to see all of you at one or more of our events for the rest of 2017!
